Noise

The other day I was driving my car, late to an appointment with my BlackBerry vibrating informing me of another e-mail, my radio on listening to whatever was playing at the time, I had a taco in my hand trying to eat and was driving well over the speed limit. As I sat at a stop light, my foot tapping to the music and just waiting for the light to turn green so I could get moving again, I remember thinking, what am I doing with all this noise? What am I allowing to drive me to such a panicked, breakneck speed of life? How could I possibly hear anything that God was trying to say to me or teach me when I was simply running from one thing to another

and then another

and another

and still another

with my radio blaring, my blackberry buzzing, my taco and whatever else I tried to put into the precious hours of the day.

In Psalm 46:10, we see God telling us to "be still and know" that He is God. How can we be still with all the noise? And I am talking about more than just being in the car. It is the scheduling every last minute with some activity, the video games, the constant internet chat, the more,

more

even more

and yet even more noise we put in our lives.

In Psalm 23 we see that God has to make us lie down in green pastures. He knows that when we are still, when we are in His green pastures that then, we can know.

Take time to be silent, to be still

To Know!
