Hallowed Be What?

This last week I was introduced to a band that I had never heard of, but later learned have been around since the early 90's.  The band is a Christian group that paraody's rock songs from the 70's-today and set's them to what they have deemed as Christian lyrics.  The song parody's range from Eminem (Will the Real Sin Savior Please Stand Up), to Gun's & Roses, to the Beatles and Elvis. All of the lyrics changed to put these tunes to a catchy little spiritual message that will appeal to just under 100,000 people, this according to their fan club counter on their website. What is even better is on the site they talk about how their songs have been written to speak to people, yet when you go to find the lyrics on some of their newer albums, you have to sign-up to their fan club before you can get access!

The same day I was subjected to ApologetiX, I saw a girl with what I thought was a Reeses Peanut Butter t-shirt.  As she approached I noticed that the shirt was actually made to look as such, but in reality an advertisement for Jesus with some tag line talking about God and Jesus etc.

I am not sure this is what God had in mind when He talked about His greatness and His holiness.  Somehow I think we have lost the sense of what God has called us to and whom it is that we serve.  We serve a Great and Holy God whom we should fear and yet we have diluted Him down to t-shirts and bad parody songs?

At the same time we do this, we look at the world around us and wonder why won't they listen to our message?  Well, maybe they have, maybe they have listened to us tell it via our clothing and our "christian" music and maybe, just maybe the delivery was what turned them off.
