My thoughts, my wants, my driving, my work, my relaxation, my entire life . . . they all revolve around me and what makes me happy and makes me satisfied.
The trouble with all of that is I also lump my relationship with Jesus into that. It is soooo much better when it revolves around me and I get to decide how and where it goes (or so I have allowed myself to think). However, that can't be if it is really going to work and be a true relationship.
Paul talks about dying to self. Jesus asks me to follow Him in true discipleship which means, its not about me. It is about Him!
It is amazing to me how I have made my relationship, my christianity about me . . . .
- Christ makes ME better
- I can bring all MY cares to Him
- He will give ME peace
- I led someone to Him (like the Holy Spirit had nothing to do with it)
and the list goes on.
Jesus was pretty clear that His first priority on earth was glorifying God, His Father. He was also pretty clear that my loving His Father and my neighbor were the two most important things I could do.
Does not sound like a lot of room for me in all of that does it?
