The Mystery & The Madness

I love the disciples.  These guys who spent all of their time with Jesus, watching Him, desiring to be like Him and wanting to learn from Him continually missed the point and were continuously in amazement over their Rabbi.  Even in His final hours they truly did not understand the full mystery of Jesus and who He was and what He intended to do.

If this is the case with this band of men who spent three years with Jesus how come we have a hard time coming to grips with the mystery of Jesus for ourselves?

This past week I was with my brother and he was telling me of two instances where good friends of his (people whom I also know) have been dealt with harshly by other "Christians" because they have raised questions about Jesus and the Bible.  These questions were deemed as some by questioning truth and therefor dangerous.

How can that be?  I mean, the disciples asked questions didn't they?  The disciples even doubted (see Thomas).  So why do we seem afraid to wrestle with Jesus and God and what is in the scriptures?  I am not sure how one can claim to have cornered the truth when those who were closest to Messiah were still questioning, doubting and exploring after three years.

God help us if we ever stop
